What is Field Mode?
Field Mode turns your phone or tablet into a giant step-by-step marking guide. Start at the same end you measured from, place a mark at the number on screen, then tap Next. It shows one mark at a time so you do not have to read a crowded list while holding a tape measure.

Plan equal spacing without trial-and-error
The Equal Spacing Calculator is the general-purpose MeasureMarks tool for any project where repeated items need to land evenly across a fixed span. It works well for shelf standards, hooks, brackets, holes, decorative blocks, trim pieces, signs, and other layouts that do not need a project-specific calculator.
What the calculator is solving
Enter the total usable span, the width of each item, and the number of items. MeasureMarks calculates the clear gap between items, the center-to-center step, and the exact center mark for every item. You can choose whether the outside edges are flush with the ends of the span or whether the outside gaps should match the interior gaps.
Best practices
- Measure the actual usable span, not the nominal size of the wall, board, or panel.
- Use the real installed width of the item when the item width affects the spacing.
- Keep the same tape-measure starting edge for every mark so small measurement errors do not accumulate.
- Use Field Mode when working away from the computer and the printable plan when you want a job-site reference.
Why use center marks?
Center marks are easy to transfer with one tape measure and remain consistent even when item widths change.
Does rounding change the layout?
The calculator keeps the exact math internally and shows practical tape-measure marks at the precision you select.
